A washing machine falls toward the ground after workers pushed it off the fourth floor of 491 Myrtle Avenue, as a hose sprays the building to counteract the dust.

The city ordered the building taken down after it sustained damage from the June 21 collapse of 493 Myrtle, at right. The Local, a blog by The New York Times about Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, has been covering the building collapse extensively.

Pentecost is the executive director of the Lower Eastside Girls Club.  The event was part of the Green Apple Festival, which brought volunteers out throughout New York in commemoration of Earth Day.
