Glennon, 19, traveled from Connecticut for the event but like many other fans, wasn’t able to get closer than the JumboTron set up in Federal Plaza because of the huge crowds that converged near City Hall.

This white casket held the bones of children who died in quarantine in the mid-19th century after coming to the U.S. On Saturday, mourners gathered to memorialize the remains of unknown immigrants that were found during construction of a courthouse in St. George. The interfaith ceremony was presided over by Edward Cardinal Egan, former Archbishop of New York. The remains will be placed in a holding tomb in the Moravian Cemetery until construction of a permanent memorial is complete.

Goverthing purported to be an abandoned civilian town on the former military base that was under archaeological excavation; in fact, it was in fact an elaborate art exhibit. Suzie was given a hose bath by local firefighters and police officers as part of Ringling’s efforts to promote its last few shows of the summer nearby. It was the Circus’s first performance under a traditional tent since 1956, and the first time it has appeared in Coney Island. Performances continue through September 7.

NBC reported that Brooklyn’s Engine Company 245 didn’t want to participate in the photo opportunity, but they cooperated after being ordered by city officials.
